Job Description


The Finance Department at Tangerine is primarily responsible for the capture and reporting of financial information for internal and external audiences in accordance with applicable standards. In addition, the Finance Department performs other important functions.  The Treasury Administration function administers securitization transactions and ensures transaction details are accurately captured in our administrative systems so that they can be properly valued, accurately accounted for and appropriately cash settled.  The Accounts Payable team ensures that all outstanding obligations are discharged on a timely basis. The Management Accounting Team provides reporting and analysis to support senior management decision making and prepares forecasts each month as to the Bank's expected earnings. Furthermore, the Management Accounting Team works with the Strategy department and the business to prepare the annual Plan.

The Finance Department continually assesses risks and controls and takes action to ensure there is an effective system of internal control over financial reporting and other Finance functions. Finance also supports the business to ensure the successful implementation of corporate initiatives. 


The Senior Accountant in Reporting is primarily responsible for preparing monthly/quarterly/semi-annual and annual regulatory financial reports to be filed with the Bank's regulators. The incumbent will also assist in special projects (including accounting policy research) and in preparing the year-end financial statements and ad hoc reports as requested. The Senior Accountant of Financial Reporting will report directly to the Manager of Financial Reporting.



  • Understand the purpose and the reporting requirement of each report that is filed with Head office, OSFI, CDIC, MFDA, BOC and Statistics Canada (collectively "regulator").
  • For each report that has to be filed with a regulator, assist in gathering the required information.
  • Perform analytical reviews on the gathered information to ensure its accuracy and reasonability.
  • Reconcile the information gathered from different sources to each other to ensure accuracy and reasonability of the information.
  • Prepare the gathered information so that it meets the requirements of the regulator.
  • File the information with the regulator on a timely basis, in the format requested and at the appropriate level of detail/breakdown (as required by the party receiving the information).
  • Ensure compliance with reporting regulations and requirements.
  • Document and maintain reporting procedures.
  • Review and file all financial reports accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements under Canadian GAAP.
  • Identify and implement improvements to reporting processes on a continuous basis.
  • Participate in assigned projects (including accounting policy research).

  • Education/Experience
    • University or College Degree in Business or Economics
    • Minimum 5 years of work related experience
    • Previous OSFI reporting experience is a must (preferably at another Canadian Bank)
    • Experience with Hyperion Reporting would be beneficial
  • Professional Certification
    • Financial Accounting designation is a must (Canadian or overseas CA preferred)

WORKING CONDITIONS:                                  

The Senior Accountant of Financial Reporting will be working in a traditional office environment and may be subject to special working conditions as needed by the business. Special working conditions may cover a range of circumstances from regular evening and weekend work, overtime, shift work, working outdoors and/or working with challenging clients.
