Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE:

 

Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Communications, and partnering with the senior leadership of the organization, the Brand and Product Communications Manager will develop communications and stakeholder strategies that build and protect Tangerine’s reputation and drive affinity for its brand among internal and external clients.

The Brand and Product Communications Manager will strive to engage and excite clients, interested Canadians and employees through the strategic, creative and consistent articulation of the Tangerine brand, corporate platforms and product initiatives and enhancements. Primary internal clients for the Brand and Product Communications Manager include Tangerine Marketing and Product groups in addition to the Sponsorship and Community Investment team

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

External Communications

  • Develop external communications strategies that drive awareness of Tangerine’s brand positioning and product offering as catalysts for dynamic and two-way stakeholder engagement.
  • Identify and foster relationships with external stakeholders that impact, or have the potential to impact, public perception of the Tangerine brand and reputation (media, consumer groups, etc.)
  • Working with the Corporate Communications Manager, identify opportunities for product and marketing senior leadership brand building initiatives.
  • Oversee project and tactical plans and ensure the execution and target audiences ladder to Corporate Communications strategy and identified objectives.

 

Internal Communications

  • Champion new and innovative ways to share information about brand and products advancements with employees.
  • Develop and encourage continued employee engagement using existing and yet-to-be identified communications channels
  • In conjunction with the Vice President, Corporate Communications, develop leadership and organization-wide communications to support brand, marketing and product initiatives that include management cascade communications and collateral materials to ensure timely and consistent communications to employees on Tangerine priorities.
  • Represent Communications on all special project teams in order to support and guide the development of effective communication plans
  • Build and maintain strong networks with internal stakeholders

 

How

  • Create and support an inspirational communications environment - finding creative ways to connect employees and external stakeholders through inspiring storytelling and innovative communication techniques. Work collaboratively with communications and marketing teams, as appropriate, on editorial calendars and timing.
  • Manage the exceptional execution of internal and external projects plans.
  • Continuously work on quality and process improvements for existing communications channels to increase employee, client, stakeholder and media consumption of Tangerine announcements and the corporate narrative.
  • Identify and report on key performance indicators on an on-going and as-needed basis to ensure continued alignment to strategy and group objectives.
  • Manage existing and emerging media issues as they pertain to Tangerine’s reputation and identified client groups.
  • Proactively manage project budgets and responsible for quarterly forecasts related to project scope.
  • Proactively collaborate with broader corporate communications team while managing and providing guidance to direct report(s).
  • In collaboration with the Manager of Corporate Communications, manage agency relationships and budgets.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                                                                                                   

 

Education/Experience

  • University Degree/College Diploma or equivalent experience in Communications
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional communications experience with a proven track record of outstanding results
  • People management experience; ability to coach.

 

Specialized Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of communication theory and best practices
  • Advanced writing, editing, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrates strategic understanding of channels like social media and video in relation to internal and external communications needs
  • Strong business understanding and aptitude

 

Abilities

  • Able to deal with ambiguity and tight deadlines while working effectively in a team environment

WORKING CONDITIONS:                                  

The Manager, Brand and Product Communications will be working in a traditional office environment and may be subject to special working conditions as needed by the business. Special working conditions may cover a range of circumstances from regular evening and weekend work, overtime, shift work, working outdoors and/or working with challenging clients.
